Simulator to enhance student’s ability to learn step by step procedures of a power plant operation

Over the last few years, WSC’s Simulation software 3KEYMASTER has penetrated the Educational and Training market in the form of 3KEYSTUDENT. WSC’s 3KEYSTUDENT provides the platform to receive simulator and lesson plan content via the web and in a classroom setting. Lesson Plan development is realized with our graphic design package that provides the necessary tools for creation of lessons. Multiple training modes are also available; ranging from the tell-all mentor mode, to a life-like test mode. Several elements were considered while developing the 3KEYSTUDENT Environment. Mainly, the ability to separate the environment from the lesson to reduce the quantity and size of downloads necessary for each lesson. Next, integrated functionality of the Intelligent Tutoring System, 3KEYITS, to allow for embedding procedures with images, video and audio capabilities. The 3KEYITS enhances a student’s ability to learn step by step procedures of the power plant operation or provides theoretical or physical information about equipment used in the power plant. This advanced technology allows an instructor to communicate via the Internet to the student’s desktop at any time to anywhere in the world.
11.30 - 12.00 MR CHIRAYU BATRA – ASSOCIATE NUCLEAR ENGINEER – IAEA

IAEA’S SUITE OF BASIC PRINCIPLE SIMULATORS FOR EDUCATION AND HUMAN CAPACITY BUILDING

With the program objective to assist member states in educating nuclear researchers, engineers, and nuclear regulators the IAEA’s project on PC based basic principle simulator provides a low cost (free) basic principles hand’s on educational tool that is relatively easy to learn and use.The presentation will give a brief overview of this project and how it is assisting the member states along with some recent insights into development of two new basic principles simulators at the agency. The presentation will also invite deliberations on questions like how agency goes about the software distribution licence, how the development or procurement process take place, how the global education and training workshops are held and what are possible ways to cooperate, etc.

16.00 - 16.30 Helmut Schreyer - KSG-GfS

Fully automated, platform independent validation and verification

Validation and verification of simulation results is worth to be automated as far as possible, due to the need of intensive testing in various simulator construction and retrofitting phases. A standard process is to run predefined simulation scenarios, record simulated data or save final condition data, and compare these to reference data. The last process step is to identify relevant and ignore tolerable differences, which usually is the time consuming job of a qualified engineer. We will present a tool environment that automatically runs the V&V process, with functionalities to support automatic detection and visualization of the relevant deviations.
